- Grey face, nape, and sides of the breast
- Dull-brown upperparts
- Rufous underparts
- White belly
- Dark brownish-grey feet
- Slim bill
Distribution
South America: found in Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]:
- N. r. rufipectus:
- North-eastern Peru (north of the Amazon)
- N. r. ruficapilla:
- N. r. nattereri:
- N. r. inundata:
- Eastern Brazil (eastern Pará) on left bank of Rio Tocantins
Habitat
Humid forests near water. Usually seen in the sub-canopy, undergrowth and forest edges.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet consists mosty of insects.
Breeding
They build nests in tree holes or earthy banks.
