Sexes are similar. Females have a whitish streak on the chin and foreneck.
Distribution
Africa; between the equator and 30°S.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Habitat
Flooded grasslands, reedbeds, lakesides and riverbanks.
Behaviour
The diet includes fish, frogs, crustaceans and aquatic insects and worms.
