There are 2 subspecies:
- A. r. catumbella:
- Subdeserts of south-western Angola
- A. r. roseicollis:
- Subdeserts of Namibia to northern Cape Province
Habitat
Rocky hillsides, woodland, semi-deserts and mountainous terrain .
Behaviour
Gregarious and noisy, they are a colonial breeder with nests in inaccessible and sometimes vertical cracks in sandstone koppies or steep rock faces on exfoliating granite. However, it is highly adaptable and also nests and roosts in Sociable Weaver (Philetairus socius) nests, but also in artificial structures, junction boxes on power poles, and in other unnatural habitats.
