- Poicephalus gulielmi
Alternative name: Jardine's Parrot
Identification
32 cm. Large, largely green parrot with red or orangy blaze on forehead to crown. Both sexes appear the same.
- body mid green
- wings and mantle darker, with dark/blackish feather centres
- underparts brighter and more yellow due to broadly yellow feathers with green fringing
- leading edge of wing with variable red patches
- under wing dark
- upper tail dark
- eye golden or amber
- orbital skin variably orange or white (age-related?)
- cere variably orangy or whitish
- loral area often with extensive dark patch
- bill has upper mandible with extensive pale patch from base with a variably darker cutting edge. Lower mandible dark
- thighs green but with distal part orange-red
- feet may be orangy or greyish
Immatures lack the forehead/crown red; this being replaced by dark feathers. Illustrations in [2] suggest that leg colour may be grey in immatures and orangy in adult birds but it's not clear if this is a real distinction.
