- Paler grey crown and side of head than back
- Greyish-brown throat
- Greyish-brown upperparts
- Browner and darker wings and tail
- Rust coloured underparts
- Pallidus
- Paler than cerviniventris, particularly on underparts
Distribution
Islands near New Guinea
Taxonomy
Southern Variable Pitohui, Raja Ampat Pitohui, and Northern Variable Pitohui were previously included in Variable Pitohui
Subspecies
Two subspecies are recognized[1].
- P. c. pallidus on Sagewin and Batanta islands
- P. c. cerviniventris on Waigeo and Gemien islands
Habitat
Inhabits lowlands, ranging from primary forests to edges and gardens.
Behaviour
Food includes insects and food.
Vocalisation
Melodious whistles covering a large range in pitch and given at a relatively slow pace (about one note per second but most notes rather complex).
