Access and Facilities

About 10 minutes north of downtown Silver Spring, just outside of our infamous Beltway, and about 1/2 an hour from downtown Washington, DC.

Umm... totally not true. Google Maps indicates 42 mins point-to-point, but Google obviously doesn't live in the D.C. area. Having been here for 50 years I can state that it will take at least 45 mins with no traffic. Reality, 1hr+.

I love living here and just had to rate it a 10. We've had great success attracting many woodpeckers, chickadees, grackles, hummingbirds and cardinals to our backyard, and are often running for binoculars and our bird books.

Pros

  • beautiful woodlands
  • good hiking trail
  • good variety of birds and other wildlife

Cons

  • at times
  • difficult to negotiate downed trees
