History and Use
Polemere NR is owned by nearby Polemere Farm and has been visited by birders for fifty years. It has always attracted hundreds of wintering birds, mainly ducks and geese and rare birds may also be seen. Recently the pool began to silt up and the shore became overgrown with trees. Major re-profiling of the lake was carried out by the Environment Agency in 2006 and some vegetation cleared away from the waterside. The reserve was reopened in June 2007.
Areas of Interest
Pool. A scrape, reed bed and shingle bank are planned.
