Identification

Male Nominate
- Black crown
- A few central white crown feathers, which are elongated to form untidy crest
Distribution
South America: found in Peru and Chile
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies:[1]
- A. r. albiventris
- Arid littoral of western Peru (Ancash to Ica and w Ayacucho)
- A. r. reguloides
- Arid southwestern Peru (southern Ayacucho) to extreme northern Chile (Tarapaca)
Habitat
Riparian thickets, arid and semi-arid montane scrub and hedgerows. Observed at heights around 375 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of insects. They forage alone, in small groups or in flocks with Yellow-billed Tit-Tyrant.
