Identification

Green, red patch on crown, throat and rump.

Distribution

Endemic to the Philippines.

Taxonomy

Up to 10 subspecies are recognized. Chrysonotus from Cebu is extinct, siquijorensis from Siquijor probably so.
Bonapartei from the Sulu Archipelago is sometimes considered a full species, Black-billed Hanging Parrot.

Habitat

Lowland moist forests and montanes.

Behaviour

The diet includes flowers and nectar specially from coconuts and bananas.
