Green, red patch on crown, throat and rump.
Distribution
Endemic to the Philippines.
Taxonomy
Black-billed Hanging-Parrot was formerly included in Philippine Hanging Parrot.
Subspecies
Clements recognizes these subspecies[1]:
- L. p. philippensis: Philippines (Banton, Catanduanes, Luzon, Polillo, Marinduque)
- L. p. mindorensis: Mindoro (Philippines)
- L. p. bournsi: Sibuyan (Philippines)
- L. p. regulus: Guimaras, Masbate, Negros, Panay, Tablas, Ticao and Romblon
- L. p. chrysonotus Formerly Cebu (Philippines). Extinct
- L. p. worcesteri: Philippines (Bohol, Leyte and Samar)
- L. p. siquijorensis: Formerly Siquijor (Philippines). Probably extinct
- L. p. apicalis: Southern Philippines (Mindanao, Basol and Dinagat)
- L. p. dohertyi: Basilan (Philippines)
Habitat
Lowland moist forests and montanes.
Behaviour
The diet includes flowers and nectar especially from coconuts and bananas.
