Identification
18.5 cm. Male: ash grey above, striped crown and back, darker wings and tail, underparts pale ash grey, cinnamon rufous band from mid-breast to mid-belly, yellow iris. Female: buff brown back, white underparts striped dark brown.
Distribution
Endemic to Peru where its small range is threatened by development.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Habitat
Desert scrub, riparian thicket and low (dense and open) woodland.
Behaviour
It feeds on leaves of Prosopis and shrubs, and fruit. It is thought to breed December-January.
