Identification
15cm.
- Extensively dark-streaked creamy-yellow underside
- Creamy-white face with narrow black eyestripe and black edged
- Olive-green crown, upperparts, wings and tail
Similar species
Recalls Luzon Striped-Babbler and Negros Striped-Babbler but much more heavily streaked than the two.
Distribution
Endemic to the western part of the island of Panay on the Philippines where only found on Mount Baloy and adjacent peaks.
Restricted-range species with a very small range, but abundant on Mount Baloy.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
May form a superspecies with Luzon Striped-Babbler, Negros Striped-Babbler and Palawan Striped-Babbler and has even be considered conspecific with Luzon Striped-Babbler.
Like other Striped Babblers from the Philippines formerly placed in genus Stachyris.
Habitat
Middle and upper storeys of montane evergreen forest and mossy forest. Found from 1000m to 1900m, mainly above 1400m.
Behaviour
Feeds on insects, also seeds.
Forages usually 3 - 12m above the ground. Seen singly or in pairs, sometimes in small groups.
Breeding season unclear. A nest was found in October, birds in breeding condition in April. One nest was a cup made of live and dead mosses woven together. It was suspended around 5m above ground among small branches in the centre of the crown of a small tree. Lays 2 eggs.
