Oriolus melanotis

Identification

Distribution

Lesser Sundas in Indonesia.

Taxonomy

The well-defined subspecies have vocal, plumage and genetic differences. They may represent 2 species: "Timor Oriole" (O. melanotis) and "Wetar Oriole" (O. finschi) [2].

Subspecies

Clements recognises the following subspecies [1]:

  • O. m. melanotis: "Timor Oriole". Eastern Lesser Sundas (Rote, Timor and Semau)
  • O. m. finschi: "Wetar Oriole". Wetar (eastern Lesser Sundas)

Habitat

Dry forests and mangrove forests.
