Identification
12 cm (4¾ in)
- Shiny blue crown and back
- White rump and underparts,
- White uppertail-coverts, with dark bands
- Black throat and undertail coverts
- Square tail
Young birds are duller, with buff underparts and the throat is less black.
Distribution
Asia, Himalayas, Nepal and Myanmar.

Habitat
They are to be found around villages, valleys, open areas with cliffs and mountains up to 3500 m.
Behaviour
Diet
They feed on flying insects, maybe in mixed flocks with swallows and swifts.
Breeding
They nest in colonies. Nests are a deep mud bowl lined with grasses or feathers. They are constructed under an overhang on a vertical cliff. The clutch consists of 3-4 white eggs. Both sexes build the nest, incubate the eggs and feed the chicks. There may be a second brood.
