Alternative name: Moustached Green Tinkerbird

Identification
Length 9-10 cm.
Dull green with white moustach stripes, yellow wing bars and a yellow rump. Darker than the Green Tinkerbird and occurs at higher elevations.
Distribution
Kenya, eastern Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, and eastern Zambia.
Taxonomy
Two subspecies are recognized[1].
- P. l. leucomystax - extreme eastern Uganda (Mount Elgon) and central Kenya south in the highlands to northeastern Tanzania
- P. l. meridionalis - southern Tanzania to Malawi west of the Rift Valley
Habitat
Montane and mid-altitude forest.
Behaviour
Usually seen singly or in pairs.
Vocalisation
A staccato trill, similar to the call of a Bar-throated apalis.
