Distribution
South America: found in Peru and Bolivia.

Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]
- D. m. unicincta:
- Andes of northern Peru (Amazonas south to central Huánuco)
- D. m. pectoralis:
- Andes of central Peru (central Huánuco to Junín)
- D. m. albilinea:
- Andes of southern Peru (Ayacucho to Puno)
- D. m. mystacalis:
- Andes of north-western Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba and western Santa Cruz)
Habitat
Humid montane woodland and low cloudforest with stunted growth. Elfin forest and woody shrubs.
Behaviour
Diet
They take a lot of insects and also eat some nectar from a wide variety of plants.
