Identification
11 cm. Small parrot similar to others in the region. Sexes differ.
- Bill black
- Front of crown and forehead bright red (male) or green (female).
- Throat with bright red patch which is extensive (male) or reduced (female)
- Iris pale (male) or dark (female)
- Body including underparts, wings largely green.
- Mantle green (male) or with an indistinct brownish patch (female)
- Carpal edge of wing yellow and red
- Rump and upper tail coverts bright red (tail tip appearing green)
- Feet orangy flesh coloured
Similar species
Other hanging parrots are very similar but allopatric (Loriculus).
Distribution
Found on Halmahera and Bacan in Indonesia

Moist lowland forest.
