Distribution

Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Taxonomy

Formerly lumped within White-striped Forest Rail (R. leucospila).
Sometimes placed in genus Rallicula.

Subspecies

  • R. m. mayri - W New Guinea (Cyclops Mountains)
  • R. m. carmichaeli - NW Papus New Guinea (Torricelli and Bewani mountains)

Habitat

Montane forests.
