Identification
Male
Upperparts glossy, dark green with a faint purple tinge to the lower back and rump. Chin, throat and upper breast blackish green, glossed purple. Purple breast band. Rest of underparts buttercup yellow with a broad scarlet centre to the lower breast and belly. Pectoral tufts yellow. Wings and tail black with a blue gloss. Bare parts black.
Female
Crown, nape and mantle greyish brown, rump and uppertail coverts greenish. Thin pale greyish supercillia, lores and ear coverts greyish brown. Chin to upper breast grey with fine pencil streaking, rest of underparts yellow fading to whitish on the undertail coverts. Wings black with thin pale grey margins to the secondaries. Tail glossy blue black. Bare parts Black.
Distribution
South east Comoros and Mayotte.
Taxonomy
This is one of the many Sunbirds that have recently been moved to the genus Cinnyris from the genus Nectarinia.
Monotypic.
Habitat
Moist lowland forest. Forages among Coconut Palms.
