Identification
25 cm. Slender black bill, pointed wings and plumage that varies by season. Non-breeding plumage is white underneath with a black crown, nape, wings and back. Breeding plumage, a brown mottled body and face.

Offshore and inshore waters.
Behaviour
Diet includes sandeels, taking herring, capelin and shiner perch.
It nests in on branches of old-growth conifers. 1 egg is laid on a platform of lichen or moss and is incubated for a month, then fed for around 40 days until the chick is able to fledge.
