Variation
Subspecies T. b. bernieri has whitish eyes while T. b. abbotti has bluish eyes.
Similar species
[[[[African Sacred Ibis is larger, has dark eyes, larger bill, more black in wing tips, and a neck sac.

Madagascar and Aldabra Island (Seychelles)
Taxonomy
Two subspecies are recognized[1]:
- T. b. bernieri
- T. b. abbotti
- Aldabra Island (Seychelles)
Malagasy Sacred Ibis and African Sacred Ibis were previously treated as one species, Sacred Ibis.
