Overview
Saint Joseph, Missouri.
Several oxbow lakes were formed eons ago when the Missouri River change its course due to flooding and the river making a new channel to flow in. Areas thus "cut off" from the channel became shallow lakes and wetlands which were of extreme benefit to shorebirds and waders. These regions became areas which attracted many varieties of birds. The main ones which I bird are Lake Contrary, Mud Lake and Muskrat Lake. I also bird the intervening woods, meadows, woods and farming areas between these various oxbow lakes.
