Identification
35cm long, flightless rail. Both sexes are similar with dark brown plumage, bare red orbital skin, long reddish orange bill and legs.
Distribution
Halmahera Island (northern Moluccas Islands, Indonesia).
Taxonomy
A monotypic species. Clements assigns this to Gallirallus [1].
Habitat
Impenetrable sago swamps.
Behaviour
The diet consists mainly of plant shoots, vegetation matters and insects. The call is drum-like sound with loud scream.
