Overview
Ile de Pins means island of Pines. But there is no Pines, they mean Araucaria. In New Caledonia grows 11 different Araucaria and 5 differnt Agathis ( Kauri ), they are all endemic.

Left hand from the ferry station is a small peninsula. Around this and further at the beach are good snorkeling possibilities. In the trees at the coast I saw Sacred Kingfisher Todirampus sanctus Swallows New Caledonian Friarbird Philemon diamenensis Rainbow Lorikeet Trichoglossus haematodus Green-backed White-eye Zosterops xanthochrous Great Frigatebird and Lesser Frigatebird
After start of ferry look for seabirds in the bay.

There is a plane from Noumea domestic airport ( 20 minutes, www.air-caledonie.nc ). 3 - 4 x times a week goes high speed ferry Betico from Noumea centre to Ile de Pins ( betico@lagoon.nc ).
On the island are different camping places.
