Identification
10 - 11cm. A small, green, nondescript forest warbler:
- Bright olive-green crown and upperparts
- Whitish throat and underparts
- Washed grey on belly and flanks
- Poorly defined pale yellowish supercilium
- Darker eyestripe
Sexes similar, juveniles with darker eyes.
Distribution
Endemict to Madagascar.
Local and uncommon.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- N. v. delacouri:
- North-eastern Madagascar
- N. v. viridis:
- South-eastern Madagascar
Like all species of this genus this species was formerly placed in the family Timaliidae.
Habitat
Humid highland forests from sea-level to 2050m.
Behaviour
Diet
Feeds mainly on insects. Forages by gleaning from foliage, sometimes hawking insects in the air.
Often in mixed flocks, also with other Jeries.
Breeding
Not much known about breeding. A male in breeding condition was found in September.
Movements
Probably a resident species.
