Identification

15cm (16 in)

  • Grey head
  • White lores
  • Olive-green back
  • Reddish-brown undertail coverts

Distribution

Asia
Southeast Asia: Indonesia
'Australasia: New Guinea (endemic), Papua New Guinea, Melanesia (endemic)

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 5 subspecies[1]:

  • North-western New Guinea (Tamrau and Arfak mountains)

  • P. h. lecroyae:

Habitat

Forests, generally at heights around 760–1650 m, though locally higher.

Behaviour

Diet

Mostly a ground feeder in areas of ferns and tall herbiage. Their diet consisting mostly of insects.
