Identification

  • Dark blue
  • Black lores
  • White base of tail
  • Reddish vent
  • Red Iris
  • Black legs

Distribution

Endemic to south-east Asia: found in Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sulawesi

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 3 subspecies[1]:

  • H. c. simplex:
  • Tentolo-Matinan Mountains (north-eastern peninsula of Sulawesi)
  • H. c. calligyna:
  • Mount Latimojong (southern-central Sulawesi)
  • H. c. picta:
  • Mekonga Mountains (south-eastern Sulawesi)

Habitat

Thick undergrowth in montane forests.

Behaviour

They forage in the leaf litter.
