Distribution
South America: found in Ecuador and Peru.
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in genus Basileuterus.
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- M. f. ochraceicrista:
- Arid tropical western Ecuador (Manabí to El Oro) and Isla Puná
- M. f. fraseri:
- Central Ecuador (Chimborazo) to north-western Peru (Lambayeque) - this form on both sides of the Andes.
Habitat
Highly disturbed riparian rain forest at ca. 440 m (1,443 ft) elevation.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet appears to be invertebrates.
