Identification
18–20 cm (7-7¾ in)
An all-black Boubou with a bluish-cast.
Similar Species
Separated from other all-black boubous by range and habitat.
Distribution
Africa: Found in the Eastern Arc mountains of Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- L. f. usambaricus (ulugurensis):
- Eastern Arc mountains (Usambaras, Ngurus, Ukagurus, and Ulugurus) of northeastern Tanzania
- L. f. fuelleborni:
Habitat
Montane forests, forest edges and forest clearings.
Behaviour
Usually keeps to undergrowth and thickets; may move to canopy when calling.
Diet
Their main diet consists of invertebrates, including caterpillars, ants, grasshoppers and snails.
They generally forage alone or in pairs.
Vocalisation
A variety of calls in duet.
