Eastern Africa: Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique
Southern Africa: Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa and KwaZulu-Natal

Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- P. n. occidentis:
- South-western Zaire and northern Angola; winters to Namibia and Mozambique
- P. n. nigricans:
Habitat
Dry savanna and lowland grassland and in knobthorn thickets
Behaviour
Diet
They forage for insects in old dung
