Distribution

Sub-saharan Africa:
Western Africa: Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola
Eastern Africa: Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique
Southern Africa: Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa and KwaZulu-Natal

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • P. n. occidentis:
  • P. n. nigricans:
  • Southern Zaire, north-western Zambia and south-western Tanzania; winters to Namibia and Mozambique

Habitat

Dry savanna and lowland grassland and in knobthorn thickets

Behaviour

Diet

They forage for insects in old dung
