Southeast Asia: found in Indochina, Thailand, Malaysia, Malay Peninsula, Brunei, Singapore, Borneo, Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sumatra, Java and the Moluccas.



There are 4 subspecies[1]:

  • P. s. simplex:
  • P. s. prillwitzi:
  • P. s. perplexus:
  • Borneo; also Bangka, Belitung, and Balambangan islands, and the south Natuna Islands
  • P. s. halizonus:
  • Anambas Islands and North Natuna Islands


Lowland forest edges, under heavy foliage; fruiting trees.
