South America: found in Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Brazil
Taxonomy
Formerly considered a part of Green-bellied Hummingbird.
Subspecies
Four subspecies are recognized[1]. Green-bellied Hummingbird (Copper-tailed) - cupreicauda Group
- S. v. cupreicauda:
- S. v. duidae:
- Tepuis of southern Venezuela (Mlount Duida)
- S. v. laireti:
- Tepuis of southern Venezuela (Cerro de la Neblina)
- S. v. pacaraimae
- Mts. of southern Venezuela (Sierra de Pacaraima)
The second group is sometimes considered a full species.
