South America: found in Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Brazil

Taxonomy

Formerly considered a part of Green-bellied Hummingbird.

Subspecies

Four subspecies are recognized^[1]. Green-bellied Hummingbird (Copper-tailed) - cupreicauda Group

• S. v. cupreicauda:

• Tepuis of southern Venezuela, Guyana and extreme northern Brazil (Roraima)

• S. v. duidae:

• Tepuis of southern Venezuela (Mlount Duida)

• S. v. laireti:

• Tepuis of southern Venezuela (Cerro de la Neblina)

• S. v. pacaraimae

• Mts. of southern Venezuela (Sierra de Pacaraima)

The second group is sometimes considered a full species.
