Common Cicadabird (or originally simply Cicadabird) has gone through more than one rounds of splitting. The Opus believes that every current species where the common name includes Cicadabird at one time was a part of this complex. The last round of splitting which finally did away with the name Common Cicadabird resulted in these thirteen species:
- Sahul Cicadabird -- Australia and some islands around New Guinea
- Banggai Cicadabird -- Banggai Islands (Peleng and Banggai), Indonesia
- Bismarck Cicadabird -- Bismarck Archipelago, Papua New Guinea
- Central Melanesian Cicadabird -- islands in the northeastern part of the Bismarck Archipelago (Tabar, Lihir and Tanga) and in parts of the Solomon Islands
- Geelvink Cicadabird -- Eastern Indonesia, Papua province, Biak Islands
- North Moluccan Cicadabird -- Northern Moluccas
- Obi Cicadabird -- Southern Moluccas (Obi and Bisa)
- Palau Cicadabird -- Palau Islands (western Caroline Islands)
- Pohnpei Cicadabird -- Federated States of Micronesia: Pohnpei (Caroline Islands)
- Rossel Cicadabird -- Rossel (Solomon Islands)
- South Moluccan Cicadabird -- Southern Moluccas (Ambon and Seram)
- Timor Cicadabird -- Eastern Lesser Sundas: (Timor, Lomblen, Kalaotoa Island, and Tanahjampea Island)
- Yap Cicadabird -- Federated States of Micronesia: Yap (western Caroline Islands)
