Distribution
South America: found in Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina.

This species is the only member of its genus.

Habitat
Dry savanna, wet or flooded lowland grassland and pastureland to 1000m.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes seeds, grain and insects.
Breeding
They nest in holes or crevices. The clutch consists of 4-5 eggs.
