Southeast Asia: found in Indochina, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Malay Peninsula, Brunei, Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sumatra, Java and Bali



There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • P. p. pyrhoptera:
Southern Myanmar, Malaya, Sumatra, Borneo and offshore islands
  • P. p. dubia:
Natuna Islands (China Sea)


Evergreen and peat-swamp forests, on hills and in the lowlands.



Their diet is not well recorded, but is presumed to consist of flies, insects and wasps.
