Genus: Haplochelidon

Description

The Andean Swallow is placed in this genus by Gill and Donsker.

Taxonomy

Haplochelidon is a genus in the Family Hirundinidae. Andean Swallow was formerly placed in genus Hirundo, then in Stelgidopteryx and now either in Haplochelidon or Orochelidon. A recent DNA study has lead SACC to move Andean swallow to a genus containing two other species, and the oldest available genus name used for any of these three species is Orochelidon, why Haplochelidon would disappear from usage[1].
