Identification
19-24 cm
- Green
- Dull olive brown head
- Yellow and black bars on the mantle, back and rump
- Red undertail coverts
Male:yellow crescent on side of neck
Female: barred breast
Distribution
Southeast Asia: found in New Guinea.
Taxonomy
Subspecies[1]
There are 4 subspecies:
- P. b. brehmii:
- North-western New Guinea (montane forests of Vogelkop Peninsula)
- P. b. intermixta:
- Western New Guinea (Snow Mountains, Weyland Mountains and Mount Goliath)
- P. b. harterti:
- Eastern New Guinea (mountains of Huon Peninsula)
- P. b. pallida:
- Central mountains of Papua New Guinea
A 5th supbspecies bugersi, is generally considered invalid[2].
Habitat
Sub-canopy or near ground level of rainforest, 1,500-2,600m

Diet
The diet includes seeds and berries.
