Contopus nigrescens

Identification

  • Uniform dark grey
  • Upper mandible is black while its lower one is yellow

Distribution

South America: found in Guyana, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.

Taxonomy

Subspecies[1]

There are 2 subspecies:

  • C. n. nigrescens:
  • Eastern slope of Andes of Ecuador (Napo-Pastaza and Santiago-Zamora)
  • C. n. canescens:
  • Eastern Peru (south to Cuzco); southern Guyana (Acari Mts.) and eastern Amazonian Brazil

Habitat

Moist forests and montanes.

Behaviour

Perches high in the forest canopy.
