Taxonomy
Formerly placed in the genus Lichenostomus.
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]:
- C. s. subfrenata:
- North-western New Guinea (Arfak Mountains)
- C. s. melanolaema:
- Central Mountains of New Guinea
- C. s. utakwensis:
- New Guinea (Weyland and Snow Mountains)
- C. s. salvadorii:
- Mountains of south-eastern New Guinea
Habitat
Primary montane forest and forest edges.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of nectar, insects and fruit, mainly foraging in the canopy.
