Identification

Male
- Olive-green back
- Bright yellow belly
- Black facemask
- Yellow forecrown
Female is similar, but lacks the black mask and has an olive crown.
Distribution
Central America: Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Taxonomy
Subspecies[1]
There are 2 subspecies:
- G. b. goldmani:
- Marshes of central Baja California (latitude 28°N to 26°N)
- G. b. beldingi:
- Marshes of Cape district of southern Baja California
Habitat
Freshwater marshes and lagoons.
Behaviour
Breeding
It builds a cup nest of dead cattails; 2-4 eggs are laid.
Diet
It forages low in vegetation; the diet includes insects and other small invertebrates.
Vocalisation
The song is a loud wichety wichety wichety wich.
