Southern Africa: Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal, eSwatini
Taxonomy
Placed in genus Chloropicus by Gill and Donsker.
Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- C. m. namaquus:
- Western Central African Republic to southern Sudan, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and western Kenya, and from Angola south to Namibia east to Tanzania, to Botswana, central Mozambique, and northern South Africa
- C. m. schoensis:
- C. m. coalescens:
- Central and southern Mozambique to eastern South Africa
Habitat
Bush and open woodland with large trees.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes insects, beetles, larvae, spiders and geckoes.
Vocalisation
The call is a loud wickwickwickwick.
