Identification
Male 34–38 cm (13¼-15 in); female 30–34 cm (12-13¼ in)
Male
- Bluish-black over-all plumage
- Silver-grey wings
- Crinkled blue bare skin on neck
- Blue bare eyering
Female is lacking the silvery-gray area on the wing
Distribution
South America: seemingly isolated population in Venezuela, and a large area from the Guianas and Brazil to Bolivia.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Forested river and lake banks, and flood forests up to 500 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of fruit.
