Identification

38cm

  • Black cap
  • White forehead
  • Grey-brown upperparts
  • "M" design across wings and back
  • White underparts
  • Dark trailing edges to underwing

Distribution

Breeds on Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean; otherwise pelagic in the south Indian Ocean, and the southern Arabian Sea, but range is unclear.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes small fish.

Breeding

Colonial breeders. They dig burrows into the forest floor at around 2400-2700m above sea level. A single egg is laid.
