Identification

- Red forehead
- Black head, breast and upper mandible
- White line behind the eye
Distribution
Eastern Africa: found in Eritrea and Ethiopia.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]: Lybius undatus has four subspecies:
- L. u. thiogaster:
- L. u. undatus:
- Highlands of north-western to central Ethiopia
- L. u. leucogenys:
- Highlands of south-western and south-central Ethiopia
- L. u. salvadorii:
- Highlands of south-eastern Ethiopia
Habitat
Woods, forest edges and gardens. Generally between heights around 300–3040 m.
Behaviour
Their main diet is fruit, particularly figs. They fly-catch for insects and also eat beetles etc.
