Identification
15 cm
- Upperside dark reddish-brown
- Underside paler reddish-brown, gradually becoming pale buff on the rear belly
- Eye brown
- Bill and legs dark
Distribution
South America: East slope of the Andes of south central Peru (Ayacucho, west of the Apurímac River between the Mantaro River and Pampas River)
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
This species and 15 others were previously included in a complex of Rufous Antpitta/Chestnut Antpitta.
Habitat
Presumably prefers dense understory in humid montane forest. The holotype was obtained from a Chusquea (bamboo) thicket. Found at elevation of 2500–3700 m asl.
Behaviour
Probably similar to other members of the Rufous Antpitta/Chestnut Antpitta complex.
Vocalisation
Long song is a trill of about 20 elements given during less than 2 seconds. Short song is a single short note that is slightly down-slurred.
