Anairetes alpinus

Identification

13 cm.

  • Dark grey above
  • Streaked blackish on mantle
  • Long, narrow, black bifurcated crest
  • White crown
  • Dark wings, with two bold white wing-bars and edgings
  • Long black tail with white outer rectrices
  • Ashy-grey below

Distribution

South America: found in Bolivia and Peru.

Taxonomy

There are 2 subspecies

Subspecies[1]

  • A. a. alpinus:
  • Andes of Peru (northern Ancash. Apurímac and Cuzco)
  • centre of belly yellowish-white
  • A. a. bolivianus:
  • centre of belly white

Habitat

Moist montanes.

Behaviour

The diet includes invertebrates.
