Identification
13 cm.
- Dark grey above
- Streaked blackish on mantle
- Long, narrow, black bifurcated crest
- White crown
- Dark wings, with two bold white wing-bars and edgings
- Long black tail with white outer rectrices
- Ashy-grey below
Distribution
South America: found in Bolivia and Peru.
Taxonomy
There are 2 subspecies
Subspecies[1]
- A. a. alpinus:
- Andes of Peru (northern Ancash. Apurímac and Cuzco)
- centre of belly yellowish-white
- A. a. bolivianus:
- Yungas of western Bolivia (La Paz)
- centre of belly white
Habitat
Moist montanes.
Behaviour
The diet includes invertebrates.
