Identification
Male
Crown, nape and mantle glossy blue-green. Lower back to uppertail coverts black. Chin, throat and upper breast as mantle, narrow maroon breast band, rest of underparts sooty. Wings and tail black. Pectoral tufts orange to vermillion (depth of colour may be age related). Bare parts black.
Female
Crown greenish olive mottled black, rest of upperparts greenish olive. Lores dark, ear coverts olivish green, thin, broken yellowish eyering. Chin and throat pale grey. Breast, belly and flanks pale lemon with greyish olive streaking, undertail coverts dirty buff with fine pencil streaks. Wings black with thin yellow margins, tail black with whitish distal halves to the outer webs of the outer feathers.
Distribution
Africa: Comoros Islands. Endemic to the island of Anjouan.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
This is one of the many Sunbirds that have recently been moved to the genus Cinnyris from the genus Nectarinia.
This taxon is considered a subspecies of Souimanga Sunbird by some authors[2]
Habitat
Forested areas and thickets at heights around 90 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Not a lot has been recorded, but they are known to eat insects, spiders and some vegetable matter.
