The Alborz (also Elborz, Elburz) mountains are a high range just south of the Caspian Sea in Iran; the highest point being Mount Damavand (5,671 m). The north slopes, facing the Caspian Sea, hold dense temperate rainforest, while the south slopes are dry, even semi-desert in the foothills.
Notable species include Caspian Snowcock and Caspian Tit.
