Identification

Distribution
West Africa: discontinuous in lowlands of Senegambia to south-western Nigeria.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Two subspecies are recognised by some authors: ahantensis and hopkinsoni.[2]
Formerly placed in genus Francolinus.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests, forest edges and clearings.
Behaviour
Diet
They have a fairly wide diet, consists of seeds, fruits and other vegetable matter; also insects and termites.
