Identification
Distribution
Found in Northern African countries east to Libya.
Taxonomy
Common Chaffinch formerly included African Chaffinch, Azores Chaffinch, Madeira Chaffinch and Canary Islands Chaffinch.
Subspecies
Clements recognizes these subspecies[1]:
- F. s. africana: northwestern Africa (Morocco to northern Tunisia); resident
- F. s. spodiogenys: eastern Tunisia and northwestern Libya; resident
- F. s. harterti: northeastern Libya; resident
